I was fortunate enough to travel to the Holy Land and visit many Biblical locations, including Bethel. For some reason, this visit impacted me unlike many of the other sites we visited. While we were there, hiking around the hills and rocks that Jacob said he made his pillow from when he had his special dream, we sang Nearer, My God, To Thee.

“Steps unto heaven,” the songs says. It makes me think of places where the Earth and Heaven touch. In fact, while we were there, I learned that “Bethel” literally meant “house of God.”
